Finding the best travel insurance

Our travel insurance price comparison tool should help you identify the best travel insurance quickly and easily. Just click "compare prices" and whether you're going to Europe, Australia or Worldwide and what type of trip it is and we'll return a list of the cheapest travel insurance policies matching your search.

We compare the best single and annual multi-trip deals alongside each other so you can see whether you could make a saving by taking out a different type of policy. We also provide travel insurance comparison for business trips, winter sports, families and couples, so tick the relevant box if any of these apply to you.

Key factors

What type of travel insurance you need depends on your individual circumstances.

Travel destination, activity and health are some of the key factors that affect the type of insurance available to you and its price.

Some insurance providers offer policies which don't exclude travellers with cancer, a heart condition, diabetes or who suffer with asthma.

Save money

Once you reach a certain age, insurance companies offer special policies just for your age-bracket!

Researching plans for the over 65's should save you money as this market has become increasingly competitive, as the silver-haired generation are proving to be great travellers.

Other types of top-up cover include business trips and cruises.

Top Ups

Bolt-ons or top-up areas of cover that tourists and travellers will want to consider include holiday cancellation, car hire and foreign currency cards.

3 Cover Tips

1. If you plan to take a single fortnight's holiday, don't get swayed into buying cover for a whole year.

If you do tend to travel more frequently compare the price of an annual cover (or multi-trip) policy against single trip quotations to work out the cheapest deal.

2. If you plan to travel in Europe, then only buy cover which includes that geographical area.

Buying Worldwide travel insurance which covers the US, Canada and the Caribbean usually costs much more.

3. Wintersports are often excluded from general travel insurance policies, or sold specifically as a bolt-on feature.

No two policies are the same, so it's essential you check the list of inclusions that relate to your skiing holiday and compare like with like to get the best deal.

Don't count on it

The list of typical benefits which are covered under your travel insurance will include cancellation, curtailment and trip interruption; hospital treatment; medical evacuation and emergency medical assistance; personal liability; and legal expenses (although this might be a bolt-on).

Check the small print in relation to natural disasters such as volcanic ash eruptions or political unrest.

Sporting activities often end up in a policy's list of exclusions.

If you want to indulge in activities like para-gliding or bungee jumping, then check you're covered.

Most medical situations should be covered, but again, it's wise to check the smallprint. If you have a pre-existing condition make sure you've made a full declaration in order not to have your insurance cancelled. Alternatively choose a specialist insurer.
