If, like us, you can’t wait to go on holiday but are wary of the government’s forever changing foreign travel guidelines, then maybe a UK cruise could be for you.
A UK domestic cruise?
When you think of a cruise, you probably think of cruising around the Caribbean or the Mediterranean. But you don’t actually need to leave the UK’s shores to have a great time.
Our coastline has so much to offer from Orca around the Faroe Islands, stunning scenery around the Giant’s Causeway to the almost Mediterranean climate of the Isles of Scilly. There’s something for everyone.
Cruises vary from a three-night ‘stay at sea’ voyage, all the way to a week of port hopping around the UK.
Currently, cruises are only departing from England, but departures from other UK nations are expected to follow soon.
Not sure cruising is for you? A three-night cruise from the UK might just be the perfect way to try it out. You can even get some ONE NIGHT cruises to get a taste of the experience.
What to expect?
Expect the unexpected. With new cleaning and coronavirus measures, cruising around the UK should remind you of a pre-covid world. Expect onboard gyms, bars, restaurants, shows, cabaret, live music, dance classes etc. Everything you would expect from a normal cruise.
Do I need a vaccine?
There is some confusion around whether vaccines will be required. This BBC News article states that Virgin Voyages will require a vaccine. But we managed to book a domestic cruise with Virgin Voyages without vaccinations being mentioned once.
The best solution would be to check with your individual tour operator before booking.
Also, make sure your booking has flexibility included in case you need to postpone.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes definately. For most international cruises you have to show proof of your travel insurance before boarding. Even for domestic cruises, you’ll need to get travel insurance with cruise cover included.
Even though you are travelling within the UK, travel insurance will not just offer you cancellation cover but will help you out in unforeseen circumstances. For example, you may need airlifting from the ship to a hospital in an emergency.
