We are often staggered by the generosity of you, our loyal customers, when giving to Macmillan, our chosen charity. In 2020 you raised over £56,500 and this year we are confident you’ll help us do even better.
Fundraising Ideas
The roadmap out of lockdown is on track so summer sporting events and fundraisers are back on. You don’t have to be an athlete to sign up and fundraise for Macmillan. Take part in a run, cycle, swim, walk, hike or even a triathlon and raise sponsorship for a great cause. If you raise enough money, you can even get a rebate for your entry fee! For more information see the Macmillan challenge events page.
Did you know, for every £1 spent on Macmillan's telephone-based Welfare and Benefits service, Macmillan will generate the equivalent of £35 in financial support for people affected by cancer, by helping them to access benefits that they are entitled to? These benefits include things such as Personal Independence Payments, Employment And Support Allowance, Carers Allowance and Universal Credit.
Bowel Cancer
This month Macmillan have been raising awareness of bowel and colon cancer which is the UK’s fourth most common cancer. Over 110 people per day are diagnosed and staggeringly 54% of bowel cancers are preventable. For more information on the causes and risk factors of bowel cancer visit the Macmillan website.
The video below, featuring Consultant Clinical Oncologist Amen Sibtain, provides an overview of the disease, including symptoms, diagnosis and treatment.
More information is available in Macmillan’s booklets for rectal cancer and colon cancer.
