September is a busy time across Macmillan, as thousands of our supporters come together as part of World’s Biggest Coffee Morning, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year.
This might be landmark year for our best-known fundraising event, but it’s safe to say that celebrations will be more restricted, as supporters having to adapt in order to meet the government guidance around social distancing.
A huge thank you to all those determined hosts who have found creative ways to organise their events safely, including our friends at PayingTooMuch.com
Of course, it’s not the only way to get involved this autumn and I will take this opportunity to promote our Sober October challenge. For some people (including myself!) lockdown has prompted a period of over -indulgence, so this is a fantastic opportunity to give your body some rest, while also raising vital funds for people affected by cancer
You’re not just helping others - you’re helping yourself too. Having a break from alcohol has great health benefits including more energy, a clearer head, better sleep, plus enough money saved for a celebratory meal on the 1stNovember!
For more details on how to get involved, visit the Go Sober October website.
I’m delighted to confirm that to date, donations from PayingTooMuch.com customers have now exceeded £50,000 – and enormous thanks to everyone that has contributed to our work.
This amount is the equivalent of funding a Macmillan Mobile Information and Support Service for over a month – a ‘support centre on wheels’ that can reach out to isolated communities across the UK, and provide them with essential support right on their doorstep. On average, this service will directly help more than 4,400 people during this time.
We are so grateful to everyone who has donated to Macmillan while purchasing their policy, and for those of you who were kind enough to support our Emergency Appeal.
On behalf of the 3 million people in the UK currently living with cancer, thank you for showing your support at this time.
