As we all know, getting the right travel insurance to suit our needs is an important factor when traveling abroad. It gives us piece-of-mind knowing that we are covered should anything happen whilst on, or before the departure of, our well-deserved holiday.
We insure ourselves to prevent personal financial loss should we fall ill abroad or have to cancel the trip due to unforeseen circumstances prior to travel.
One could argue that this is even more imperative with Brexit looming, as most UK nationals will no longer be able to use the EHIC or E111 cards to cover medical treatment in EU countries after December 31st, 2020.
The UK government website advises that we should buy travel insurance with healthcare cover before we go on holiday, and warns that it is “Particularly important” to get travel insurance with the right cover if you have a pre-existing medical condition.
Those of us with more serious medical conditions often find that travel insurance can cost as much as the holiday itself. This is due to the increased risk being accepted by the insurer – But are some insurers taking advantage of this?
MaPA Travel Insurance Directory
Since July 2019, the FCA and Money and Pensions Service have been working together to: “help consumers with more serious pre-existing medical conditions better navigate the travel insurance market”. To this end, they have decided to collaborate and produce a directory of travel insurers who specialise in covering those with pre-existing medical conditions.
From the 26th of April 2021, firms must signpost certain customers with Pre-existing medical conditions to the MaPS directory. The aim of the directory is to:
- Reduce the number of uninsured consumers, who currently face the choice of not travelling or risk having to pay significant costs, including medical bills abroad.
- Reduce the number of consumers with pre-existing medical conditions who are significantly overpaying for their insurance.
- Reduce the number of customers who feel frustrated and unable to navigate the market.
- Increase consumer confidence and trust in the travel insurance market.
We are proud to announce that Payingtoomuch.com has been excepted onto the MaPS Travel Insurance Directory, where we will sit alongside ten other specialist UK travel insurance providers. This is due to us offering a wide range of fairly priced products that enables us to better meet the needs of our customers. The ‘C’ Word
Coronavirus (Covid-19) has had a massive impact on the travel industry as a whole owing to restrictions being placed on local and international travel. The virus itself, along with the constantly changing government and FCO travel advice has meant that many of us have been put off traveling through this period of uncertainty – But what if we could insure ourselves against cancellation of the trip due to catching Coronavirus before departure? Or being refused entry onto a flight, into a country, or your booked accommodation?
At Payingtoomuch.com we have providers who offer policies with ‘Coronavirus Cancellation Cover’ which will cover you for the situations mentioned above. All of our policies cover you for medical treatment if you fall ill with the virus whilst abroad.
So if these concerns are currently stopping you from travelling why not visit us at www.PayingTooMuch.com or give us a call on 01243 78300, Monday to Friday, 9am to 5.30pm.
