Airport parking can be very expensive, especially if you are going away for a two week holiday. It has recently been reported that there are new car sharing schemes popping up for holiday makers which leases out their car whilst they are away on holiday to incoming tourists, but beware, your insurance policy will almost certainly not cover you even if you are fully comprehensive.
According to one of the companies responsible for the scheme at Gatwick Airport, it is claimed that your car will be covered and will only be rented to “carefully vetted UK and Ireland residents aged 25 and over” and it will be fitted with a telematics unit to monitor how it’s driven while in the hands of a stranger. But just how safe and secure is your car?
Payintoomuch.com General Insurance Channel Manager Steve Rayner said: “After speaking to an underwriter we have been advised that they [insurer] definitely won’t cover the policy holder and wouldn’t want them to enter into this kind of contract and could cancel the policy should they do so. So, don’t take the risk all for the sake of earning an extra few pounds!”.
