Percy, PayingTooMuch.com’s slightly famous mascot, has been training hard for the Bognor 10k road race. Inquisitive customers have been flooding our Sussex based call centre with calls (we’ve had 1 call!) to report sightings of Percy at 6am in the Bognor area.
The lady in the suit is Ali Richards, Commercial Director at PayingTooMuch.com’s parent company, Eclipse Financial Systems. She comments:
“This year I turn 50, and am always up for a challenge. I thought it would be fun to run the local 10k in the PayingTooMuch.com character costume that's been kicking about the office for the last 5 years and has never been properly 'tested'.
“I'm selling this to myself on the basis that nobody will see my red, sweaty face! I don't like running in public anyway, which is why I usually head out at the crack of dawn for training sessions.
“However, what I hadn't thought of is the keen wind that is always blowing along Bognor seafront. My costume isn't very streamlined - in fact it's a bit like the sail of a yacht and designed to catch the wind rather than avoid it. So I may need to run sideways...
“The charity I've chosen is the Alzheimer's Society. This is prompted partly by my own experience with family and friends who have suffered some form of dementia.”
Michael Ward, managing director of PayingTooMuch.com, has generously agreed to match any donations. Ali’s just giving page can be found here. A £10 donation from you could potentially turn into £25 for the charity. Just remember to gift-aid, and then your £10 turns into £12.50, which will be matched by PayingTooMuch.com.
Ali’s final words: “I am aiming to raise £1000. Mike, our MD, has generously promised to match whatever I raise, so here’s hoping I'm not too popular! If you can spare anything and would like to donate please do so using the link above.”
To anyone in the Bognor area, come down on Sunday 15th May and cheer Ali on. Here’s a short clip of Ali getting used to being Percy.
