By way of an update to yesterday’s blog post, I have now been called by the recipient of my lead details completed on the Aviva look-a-like website www.myavivaquote.co.uk.
The lead enquiry form stated in large writing, “Apply for Aviva's award winning life insurance today”, implying the next step would be an Aviva application form.
Instead, the agent that called me (Natasha) was from BeProtected, “who work on behalf of Aviva”.
BeProtectedInsurance.com is an appointed representative of Organic Insurance Limited (who are directly FCA regulated), and feature no less than eight life company logos on their home page.
Claiming she was “working on behalf of Aviva” made it sound to me like she was an Aviva member of staff - perhaps “working on behalf of BeProtectedInsurance and pretending to be Aviva”, would have been a more accurate description given the origin of the lead.
The plot thickens...
Both the MyAvivaQuote look-a-like website and BeProtectedInsurance website are all based from the same address in Leeds. It’s a small world.
Beware those call centres that pass themselves off as large life insurance companies - this isn't a shining example of ethical or compliant behaviour, and Aviva have probably got a much larger legal department than you!
