With frosty mornings now as regular as the rain and Christmas just around the corner, it's time to start planning your next skiing trip. The excitement of hitting the freshly bashed piste first thing in the morning is enough to get anyone through the dark December nights.
The après-ski may be well planned, but have you put as much effort into planning for the worst? Here are our 5 ‘top-tips’ when it comes to Winter Sports Cover.
- When purchasing an annual travel insurance policy, check how many days’ winter sports cover applies. A lot of insurers will limit travellers to just 17 days a year for winter sports cover.
- Ensure you know, and adhere to, your insurers’ guidelines in case you have to make a claim. For example, most insurers will insist you are wearing a helmet while partaking in winter sports activities. Failure to follow these guidelines may result in any claim being dismissed.
- Should you need to claim for piste closure, ensure you have obtained confirmation of the resort closure from the local representative. Failure to do so could invalidate a claim.
- Check whether your policy has limitations on when you can make a claim for winter sports. Most insurers state they will only cover piste closure etc. between 1st December and 30th April (northern hemisphere) and 1st April and 31st October (southern hemisphere.)
- Make sure your insurer will cover private medical costs within their policy – this will be needed should you have to be helicoptered off a mountain following an accident.
