What is home insurance?

Home insurance is a financial product that usually covers both your building and your possessions from loss or damage. This might include fire, flood and theft, as well as accidental damage you may do to your own property.

Building insurance also tends to cover all fixed items, such as sheds and garages, whilst contents insurance covers possessions, and will often even cover items that leave the house (but do check!).
